Sarah Miller, MA, NCC, LPC, LAC, LMFT
Hi, I'm Sarah Miller. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed professional counselor, and a licensed addiction counselor in the state of Colorado. I was born and raised here, and after moving around a bit with my family (military), I'm glad to be back home.
I received my Bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Psychology and my Master's degree from the University of Colorado Denver in Counseling with a concentration in couples and family therapy. I also have training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.
My Philosophy
I strongly believe that therapy should be a collaborative experience where you can leave sessions feeling heard and understood in a deep and meaningful way. My aim, as your story unfolds, is to identify themes and patterns and explore how past events may be impacting present experiences.
I embrace the following beliefs:
-
I believe that you are worthy of love and care
-
I believe that emotions heal when they are witnessed and validated
-
I believe that you are strong enough to be present with what you may be going through
-
I believe that sometimes small steps in the right direction end up being the biggest steps in the end
-
I believe that Dr. Brene Brown was right when she said, “Owning your story is the bravest thing you’ll ever do”
My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
I’m no different from the clients I see. Like everyone else, I’m human and have been been through both wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I help.
Throughout my life, I have known and struggled with what it is like to have your feelings and opinions not heard. I know what its like to feel like you’re both too much and not enough. I know deeply what it is like to have challenging experiences from childhood that show up into adulthood. Perfectionism, caretaking tendencies, and putting others first are just a few ongoing challenges that I personally know very well. My life experiences are what has led me to become the therapist I am today.
Being a therapist is an honor. I love helping people become healthier and more empowered and watching them transform their lives. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is inspiring others to be all they can be.
I am committed to encouraging you to see healing and transformation.
Outside of Counseling
Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two wonderful daughters and a loving and supportive spouse. As a family we enjoy games, puzzles, being outside, and traveling. In my free time I enjoy cooking and baking or getting lost in a good fantasy book.
